About this tour
Lally Tours' Connemara National Park trip is made for people who want time on the trails rather than just views through a coach window. Your driver-guide narrates the drive west from Galway, covering the traditional music, the Irish language and the culture that are still strong in this part of the country.
The route passes through Maam Cross to Leenane, a village at the head of Killary Harbour, which is often described as Ireland's only fjord. There's about half an hour in Leenane and a short stop at the harbour itself.
The main event is two hours of free time at Connemara National Park, where entry is included. You can pick from three marked hiking routes of different lengths and difficulty, including the climb up Diamond Hill, or relax at the visitor centre, which has tea rooms, picnic areas and toilets.
On the way back there's about 30 minutes in the seaside village of Spiddal to see the beach and craft centre, and then you pass along Salthill Promenade before arriving back in Galway. Lunch and drinks aren't included.
